Desire, Appetite, and the Seductive Self
These drawings explore desire as a force that makes restraint feel negotiable. Junk food, sweets, consumer imagery, fashion, and the body become symbols of immediate gratification — pleasures that promise satisfaction precisely because they ask us to stop thinking about consequence. Desire offers the fantasy of surrender: to appetite, impulse, excess, and the seductive freedom of wanting without restraint.
The women who inhabit these images appear caught between composure and indulgence, self-control and appetite. Fries, cupcakes, candy, and other forbidden pleasures become stand-ins for a broader carnal hunger — the things we reach for even when we know they may be excessive, unhealthy, or destructive. Desire becomes less a simple wish than a negotiation between the self we believe we should be and the self that wants to give in to temptation.
