Desire, Appetite, and the Pleasure of Surrender

Desire promises relief from restraint. In these drawings, junk food, sweets, consumer imagery, fashion, and the body become emblems of temptation — seductive pleasures whose appeal lies partly in their excess. They offer the fantasy of abandoning discipline and surrendering instead to appetite, impulse, and immediate gratification.

The women move through a world of things made to be wanted. Fries, cupcakes, candy, bodies, brands, and fantasies accumulate until pleasure itself becomes almost overwhelming. Beneath the playful surface is a more conflicted question: what happens when the self stops resisting what it desires? These works explore the charged space between control and surrender, nourishment and excess, pleasure and consequence.
